LEBANON, PA — A pro-life mass was held at the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church at 2 North 8th Street on March 30, followed by the presentation of a check in the amount of $29,100 from the Knights of Columbus to Susquehanna Valley Pregnancy Services. Steve Kracke, VP for Strategic Advancement, stated that the money will go toward the purchase of an ultrasound machine and related equipment. Kracke said, “The ultrasound machine serves as a tool to verify the viability and age of a child in utero. Pregnant mothers are able to view their child moving and the baby’s heart beating during an ultrasound examination.”
Don Hassenbein and Pat Sweeny, members of the Knights of Columbus Assembly 973, were largely responsible for soliciting the necessary funds for the ultrasound machine’s purchase. Sweeny expressed his thanks to all those who participated in contributing their time and money toward the project. There were 52 individual contributors, 7 of which were separate Knights of Columbus councils.
Hassenbein was glad that SVPS and the Knights were able to partner in this effort for the good of the Lebanon community. “I’m very happy with what we were able to accomplish on behalf of SVPS. It demonstrates that like minded people can work together to serve women who require support and education related to their pregnancy.”
