Vejerde la Frontera, Spain – April 20, 2016 – According to Healthline, approximately 350 million people around the world suffer from depression. This is 5% of the world’s population, and this number continues to rise every year. Louis McIntosh and Kathryn Hockey were one of those sufferers. To shed light on the struggles of depression, McIntosh and Hockey launched a Kickstarter campaign to release their 20-page illustrated poem called “The Black Dawg.” The goal is to raise €12,000 by May 12, 2016 to cover costs of design, printing, publishing, marketing, and distribution.
Louis shares his experience with this mental illness by saying, “I had suffered from Depression (yes with a capital D) for several years and it was a very lonely experience. On an upswing from The Black Dawg, as I called the Big D, I wrote a hard-hitting stream of consciousness poem detailing the experience but also offering solutions, so it finished on a hopeful note. I showed this to several people including a blogs editor who gave me a forum on the Huffington Post to blog my thoughts.”
Through Louis’ powerful writing and Kathryn’s captivating illustrations in “The Big Dawg,” people can learn how to recognize, understand, and explain what people go through when they are depressed.
Not only will this story explain what depression is, but it will also bring hope to fellow suffers when they realize they’re not alone in this dark journey.
