Non-profit, Veterans Path Up has officially started its latest home rehab project in the Druid Hills neighborhood of Charlotte that will be occupied by an honorably discharged Vietnam veteran in June 2016. The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Housing Partnership, Inc. conveyed the property to Veterans Path Up in a purchase transaction last week. Initial demolition was funded by a grant from BB&T Bank that provided for the bank’s employees to work at the project on weekends. Additionally, members of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, Metro Division, are volunteering their time with the property rehabilitation work.
Veterans Path Up works with honorably discharged U.S. military veterans and veteran families through the use of shared living, single-family residences and ultimately to help them get on a path to home ownership. The emphasis is to provide housing for homeless, working and disabled veterans, many of whom do not qualify for long-term support from any government agency. The agency provides a link to veterans served by bridging the gap to other supportive veteran services. The organization provides education and awareness to available support with the ultimate goal of getting the veteran and family on the path to self-sufficiency.
“Getting donation dollars is imperative for doing more good work for our military veterans,” said Ken Lacy, Executive Director of Veterans Path Up. He continued, “There are more deserving veterans needing a hand up than we and other agencies have available to assist at this time.”
Based in Charlotte, North Carolina, Veterans Path Up is a veteran run non-profit, which provides affordable stable housing to veterans and veteran families with a path to home ownership. The goal of the organization is to help honorably discharged veterans with a hand-up as opposed to a handout. This is accomplished through education about available support where veterans are placed in affordable housing with the ultimate goal of self-sufficiency, and getting on the path to success.
