An exceptional, uniquely gratifying novel
“COOKING FOR GHOSTS,” Visionary Fiction Inspired by Author’s Uncanny Experiences During Overnight Stay on the Historic Ocean Liner

May 27 of this year marks the 80th anniversary of the RMS Queen Mary’s maiden voyage from Southampton. The occasion will be celebrated by numerous special events, including a formal dinner to be held in the Grand Salon aboard the ship. Guests will be treated to a discussion about the ship’s rich history by Randolph Churchill, great-grandson of the ship’s most illustrious passenger, Sir Winston.

Author Patricia V. Davis was unacquainted with that history when she stayed aboard in order to attend a woman’s conference at the Long Beach Convention Center. Nor was she aware of the reports that the ship is thoroughly haunted. That’s why the sensations she was bombarded with almost immediately upon her arrival, and the fact that her reading glasses seemed to be moving about her stateroom of their own accord came as quite the surprise.

As she tells it, “My publicist booked the Mary because the rooms at the convention center were filled. I confess to my ignorance about the ship’s extraordinary heritage. I was aboard solely out of business necessity. But then odd things started happening, and I remember that I phoned my husband to tell him, “There’s something very unusual about this ship.”

After two days of exploring the magnificent ocean liner, Davis left for home completely entranced and inspired to write a story she says sprang to the page, “fully formed, the way the grown Athena sprang from Zeus’s head.” The novel, a visionary, metaphysical work of literature, the first of three set on the modern day RMS Queen Mary, is about four diverse women who meet on a food blogging site and, eager to escape past tragedies, decide on an impulse to open a restaurant aboard the ship. The women are surrounded by ghosts long before they step onto her decks, but unbeknownst to them, the Mary hides her own dark secrets.

Hailed by reviewers as “an exceptional, uniquely gratifying novel,” “with vivid imagery that shines a light on the majestic legacy of the RMS Queen Mary,” COOKING FOR GHOSTS is due to be released in October 2016, in time for the ship’s 80th anniversary, not to mention Halloween and Day of the Dead, two holidays for which the Queen Mary hosts popular celebrations.

In addition to bookshops and online shops throughout North America, Cooking for Ghosts: Book I in “The Secret Spice Trilogy” will also be available in the gift shop aboard the Queen Mary. Pre-orders on amazon.com begin in July 2016, bookshop orders are being taken currently. Special hardback library editions will also be available.
