Hanshi Daniel Hect, CEO of the Masters Hall of Fame, has announced that martial arts legend Frank Dux will be the keynote speaker at the 2016 Masters Hall of Fame Awards Ceremony in Austin, Texas. The event will take place on Saturday, June 4, at the Hilton Austin Airport Hotel. This will be the first of two awards events; the second ceremony will take place on Saturday, June 18, at the Sheraton Columbus Hotel at Capitol Square in Columbus, OH.
“We are proud and honored to have Frank Dux as our keynote speaker for our Austin, Texas, awards ceremony. He is not only a legend in the martial arts but a man I am proud to call a friend,” Hanshi Daniel Hect, CEO of the Masters Hall of Fame
Born in Canada and raised in California’s San Fernando Valley, Dux was fascinated with the martial arts. Unable to afford tuition to any of the local schools, he recalls how he would watch through the window of such masters as Bill Ryusaki, Bob Ozman, Bong Soo Han, S.B. Moon and John Leone. Through this eclectic “auditing” of styles, Dux developed his own mixed style that he later codified into what he called Dux Ryu Ninjutsu.
In 1975 Dux entered into the Kumite, an event that is considered by some as the predecessor for Mixed Martial Arts. It was said to be a no-holds-barred competition that matched fighters from around the world. Dux entered as a heavyweight and eventually came away with the championship. His experience was written about in Black Belt magazine in 1980 and later became the basis for the 1988 film Bloodsport, in which Jean-Claude Van Damme played Dux.
Dux was inducted into the Masters Hall of Fame in 2011, receiving the Platinum Life Achievement Award for his contributions to the martial arts. “We are proud and honored to have Frank Dux as our keynote speaker for our Austin, Texas, awards ceremony,” says Hect. “He is not only a legend in the martial arts but a man I am proud to call a friend.”
The Masters Hall of Fame was founded in 1999 and is recognized as one of the premier Martial Arts events on the West Coast. The association recognizes exceptional Martial Arts Leaders and Legends through induction into the Masters Hall of Fame. Members of the Masters Hall of Fame include Professor Bob White, Grandmaster Don “The Dragon” Wilson, Sifu Cynthia Rothrock and Kru Lisa “The Black Widow” King.
