Zakk Wylde Takes The World By Storm
The Valhalla Rocker now has his own signature comic book, in conjunction with the world’s strongest coffee, Death Wish. With unique, striking art, the book, “Death Wish Coffee Presents Odinforce,” is one of the new trend of hard rock/heavy metal musicians doing comic book collaborations. Where’s the credit for the inspiration

Normally known for heavy metal, Vamplified’s crossover erotic cover of Prince’s “The Beautiful Ones” has won “BEST MUSIC VIDEO, COVER / POP for May” from The Akademia Awards. Described by the Akademia as “The perfect visual complement to this Prince classic, Vamplified’s ‘Beautiful’ video highlights her stunning charisma and vocal talent, which would no doubt earn a smile of approval from his royal badness,” her cover deftly conveys the layers of meaning and emotion present in this Prince classic, fully illustrating her admiration of an artist that so deeply inspired her as a musician. Film festivals and a Blu-Spec remaster for X Japan
Japan’s most famous hard rock/heavy metal band has been in the film festival circuit recently, with screenings of the Stephen Kijak-produced autobiographical documentary “We Are X” showing at Sundance, South By Southwest, and being featured in the Cannes Marche, and at Moscow’s BEAT film and music festival, and at the Seattle International Film Festival. Upcoming screenings are planned for the Portland Film Festival and at an unnamed event in Shanghai, according to Kijak’s Twitter. Starting with their 1991 album “Jealousy,” all of the band’s albums have actually been produced at drummer and bandleader Yoshiki’s Hollywood studio, with filming and even two shows in LA, making the band truly one of Hollywood’s musical treasures – if, unfortunately, still an obscure one compared to their well-earned Japanese fame.

Speaking of “Jealousy,” a high-definition Blu-Spec remaster will be released July 27th, and if you like hard rock and heavy metal, it’s definitely worth your time to hear a band that should have made the Big 4 of the 1980s and early 1990s the Big 5, and which has, like Yoshiki’s marque wine, only improved with age.
