Pennsylvania might be known for their college football and delicious snack foods but did you know there is a high drug and alcohol addiction problem in the state of Pennsylvania? Drug and alcohol addiction is a serious topic and many top Pennsylvania rehab centers for drug and alcohol addictionaddicts are trying to seek help but the process of finding the right addiction treatment center can be painful.
Whether you would care to admit it or not, the terms used in a detox program is often so confusing that you would simply shake your head in disbelief.

Is there a much simpler way to understand and differentiate an acute detox from a sub acute detox or an inpatient detox from an outpatient detox or a medical detox from a social model or holistic detox? How about rapid detox? How different is it from the other kinds of detoxes? And who really needs a rapid detox in Pennsylvania?

Before you understand who will benefit the most from a rapid detox, it is important to understand that detoxification is a process of removing toxins or harmful substances from the body. Since detoxification is largely anchored on the presence of toxins in the body, the type of detox is therefore closely related to the type of the toxin or harmful substance and the severity or extent of the damage already caused by the said substance. If the individual is only an occasional user of illicit drugs or alcohol such that there is no significant changes in his physiologic and mental health, then he will benefit most from a sub acute detox seen in a social model or even a holistic type of detox often performed in an outpatient setting or even a residential drug addiction and alcoholism detoxification and treatment facility. Now, if the individual is a chronic user of illicit drugs or alcohol and is already showing signs of progressive physiologic and mental health problems that is best treated under the supervision and management of a medical professional, then he will benefit more in an acute detox program that espouses medical or rapid detox treatments in an inpatient setting.

Clearly, rapid detox and medical detox are performed in an inpatient setting. Here, the individual will require the medical supervision and management of his detoxification and will be on a 24-hour monitoring of his condition. Typically, he will be under the care of a medical doctor and a psychiatrist who will have to work together to make sure that the medication protocols intended for detoxification are strictly enforced. The question now is what is the difference between a medical detox and a rapid detox program?

Both tend to individuals who have serious medical and psychiatric problems as a result of the addiction. However, rapid detox treatments is often indicated for individuals with life-threatening conditions such that the medical detox team must act quickly and decisively in order to reverse any potentially life-threatening conditions the individual may have. You may liken rapid detox treatments as the management of health conditions in an emergency setting. The medical detox program will be more closely related to hospitalization which requires thorough monitoring but not as thorough as that in rapid detoxes.

So who needs rapid detox treatments? Individuals with long-standing illicit drug addiction or chronic alcoholism who is showing signs of early organ failure or any other life-threatening condition. They require intensive care and one-on-one monitoring.
