Founder of The Resort Group awarded highest honour of Merit Medal for his significant contribution to the economic progress of Cape Verde

London, England – 20 July, 2017 — The President of Republic of Cape Verde, Jorge Carlos Fonseca, has awarded founder and chief executive of The Resort Group plc (TRG), Rob Jarrett with Second Class Merit Medal for his unwavering positive contribution and investment to the country.

Jarrett has been awarded the accolade for not only his contribution to the economic and social development of the country, but also the creation of hundreds of jobs.  The honour, which is one of the highest accolades awarded by the Government, formed part of independence celebrations that took place in Cape Verde yesterday as the archipelago celebrated its independence from the Portuguese 42 years ago.

The Resort Group plc is a world-class luxury resort hospitality company specialising in developing and operating 5-star holiday resorts and hotels. The Company has strategic partnerships with world leading hotels and tour operators, of which include TUI Travel, Melia Hotels International, Steigenberger Hotels and Resorts and Hilton Worldwide. Since Jarrett has invested in developing Cape Verde, tourism figures have risen significantly. According to the National Statistics Institute in Cape Verde, foreign visitors to the archipelago have increased 13.6 percent in 2016, with tourists from the UK, Germany, Portugal and France choosing to spend the most time on the islands. Tourism represents 21 percent of the country’s GDP and is one of the main sources of employment in the country.

Furthermore, in 2011 Jarrett established The Cape Verde Foundation to support and make a positive contribution to the people and local communities of Cape Verde. Organised and managed by TRG staff across the Company, it is a group wide effort in social responsibility to help the local children of Cape Verde.

Joaquim Arena, culture advisor to the Presidency of the Republic, said: “The tourism sector has been and will be crucial for the economic development of Cape Verde. The continued investment and support from entrepreneurs such as Rob Jarrett is key to the continued success of Cape Verde as we look to firmly establish the country as a burgeoning tourist destination on the world stage.”

This is the second time Jarrett has been awarded the Merit Medal. In September 2015, he was awarded the Merit Medal for tourism by the Municipality of Sal in Cape Verde. The honour recognised Rob’s positive contribution to tourist development on the Island of Sal.

Rob Jarrett added: “I am deeply humbled to receive such a prestigious award. The Resort Group plc is committed to developing Cape Verde as a successful tourist destination whilst maintaining Cape Verde’s culture, improving infrastructure and supporting its local people by offering new opportunities and sources of employment. Cape Verde is a beautiful country, home to passionate people and I have been privileged over the years to meet wonderful friends and colleagues who share in this vision.”

The decoration ceremony took place at the Presidential Palace, in Praia, on July 5th and is awarded by the highest magistrate in the country. The 5th July marks Cape Verde’s independence from Portugal in 1975.

New TV Series “Snowfall” Shows the Many Faces of Cocaine

A new TV series entitled “Snowfall” is about to show us the history of how cocaine had infected many American Communities in the 1980’s. It aims to educate people about the lives that the illegal drug has changed or ended.

The show was written by Eric Amadio, John Singleton, and Dave Anton. The first part of the series begins in a palm tree-lined suburb in June 1983.Franklin Saint, played by Damson Indris, is introduced as “a level-headed kid fresh out of a fancy suburban school he attended on scholarship.”

Franklin was shown to feel like he was out of place in his school. The main character earns some money working in a convenience store and doing other side jobs. Due to a twist of fate, Franklin is introduced to Israeli cocaine kingpin Avi Drexler, played by Alon Moni Aboutboul. The kingpin offers Franklin a dangerous opportunity to apply his ambition of which he accepts.

“Snowfall” offers us a light beginning to contrast the heavy events that would unfold in the future. From the sunny suburb we begin with Franklin kindly catches children for stealing candy, then things escalate to having to deal with situations that would force him to grow up.

The series shows us other characters struggling amidst the cocaine pandemic. Teddy McDonald, played by Carter Hudson, an ex-C.I.A. agent, attempts to speed up his career in smuggling drugs to fund militias in Nicaragua.

Another curious character in the story is the duo of Lucia Villanueva, played by Emily Rios, and Gustavo Zapata, played by Sergio Peris-Mencheta. Lucia is the daughter of a powerful Mexican drug lord who seeks to widen his span of influence, while Gustavo was a professional wrestler Lucia took in as a bodyguard.

The three story lines intersect in a scene in the show then quickly separate again after a few moments. The main idea in each story line involves people having to experience hell and do things they would otherwise not want to for the purpose of uplifting their status in the society.

The main driving force in all of the story lines is the presence of cocaine. Franklin uses it as a way to get some extra money, Carter, on the other hand, smuggles it to gain a career, and lastly, Lucia and her family uses it to amass power.

The show sheds light on the complexity of the drug pandemic in our world. It shows that the situation is not as simple as we think it is. Cocaine is seen as the salvation for a few, but the destroyer of many.

Carter’s situation shows us how drugs can even have a large part when it comes to politics and war. Franklin sheds light on how misguided principles can lead us to a place we never wanted to go. While Lucia shows that the conquest of power is a never ending bloody-cycle.

Various television hits have owed their success to the story of how drugs have changed and ruined lives. Drugs have become a part of many successful TV shows such as “Breaking Bad”, “The Wire”, “Weeds”, and Boardwalk Empire”. All of which tells us that drugs are never the solution and people addicted to it need to go get help.

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jack Beauregard.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Jack. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
My professional background was with major medical corporations such as Johnson & Johnson and C.R. Bard. While working for the world’s largest orthopedic company, I realized that containment was to become a factor in the healthcare industry. I started the first cost containment device company in the country, and brought the idea into reality with 142 salespeople and six regional managers in 42 states.

For three years, I took my “CEO” hat off to drive across the Charles River from Boston to Cambridge to attend Harvard Divinity School. My goal was not to become a theologian or minister, but to learn how eastern philosophies, which I knew nothing about, and western scientific thought, were connected. All of the libraries were available to me, including the Harvard Business School. I would do my studies, drive back over the river and put my “CEO hat” back on.

I have created a new paradigm, strategic planning steps, proprietary principles, successful approaches and effective decision making techniques to help Baby Boomers successfully answer: “What do I want to do with my business?” “Who can I trust to help me?” “What do I want to do after I leave my current position?” and “Where will I find new meaning and purpose in the next stage of my life?”

I started the Successful Transition Planning Institute to help people discover new meaning and purpose in their lives when they experience major life transitions such as divorce, loss of a loved one, when the last child leaves home or retirement. The focus of all my work is to expand the awareness of people to a new way of thinking which allows them to create a vision for their lives and be intellectually, emotionally, psychologically and spiritually prepared to transition into the next stage of their lives.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The misconception that life is all about money while ignoring the fact that the “head,” how one thinks, and the “heart” issues, how one feels, are equally as important as the money “wallet” . Also an unaware that not having a plan when one goes through a life transition is a plan to fail in the next stage of life. Another challenge is that people are so distracted that they do not take time to know who they really are and determine what is really meaningful to them.

Time and decay, mortal enemies of most artists, are Tery Fugate-Wilson’s partner’s in creation. Subscribing to the natural-process post-minimalist (Actual Art) Tery Fugate-Wilcox’s partners philosophy, Tery’s pieces are literally abstract works in progress, employing weathering, rainfall evidence, oxidation or other impacts of nature to interact with and affect the artistic outcome.

Art House Hudson gallery owner Christene Selleck says, “Tery and I had been working within blocks of each other for close to 20 to 30 years without crossing paths or meeting. For years I often looked at the work he created that was all around Soho and often wondered, ‘What is that and why is it there?’ Who knew years later that we would be working on various shows, creating large banks of work and multi-media projects together.”

Tery’s approach to the “It’s Time” exhibition, “Nascent Art examines the point at which an object becomes a work of art. Actual Artists do not finish works of art; they only start them. Then the works leave the artists’ hands and go out into the world to be ‘finished’ by weather, dust, oxidation, temperature, humidity, human and/or animal interaction or simply time, as the inner structure of the materials change or interact with each other. At some point, during that evolution, the materials become a work of art…on their own…without the artist’s intervention.”

Art House Hudson will be showcasing Tery Fugate-Wilson’s exhibition through September 4, at the gallery located at 99 3rd Street, Hudson, NY 12533.

“The Steves” In 1984 Tery was commissioned by Steve Jobs to create the first series of computer-generated art. These works are the first generation of what we today call computer graphics. Although presented as a multi-toned installation, each piece stands on its own.

“Don’t Leaf Me Alone” offers the suggestion of the triumph of substance over style. As the superficial glitz of gold is inevitably diminished and tarnished by time, the authenticity of the natural world is revealed in the form of a gold, copper and silverleaf.

“Slow Burn” is an assembly of 60 pieces of paper collected once a month over five years. Viewed daily, the aging process craftily appears averted. Viewed years later, we are not only witnesses to the time line of the paper’s now obvious deterioration, but perhaps, to be faced with the reoccurring shock of our own mortality.

After being held at gunpoint and locked up overnight in her basement, she was diagnosed with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).
 
Alicia was taken to the hospital to get checked out, and there were no physical injuries. She was shaken and had difficulties sleeping after the robbery, but her doctor advised that these symptoms will eventually pass; however, they didn’t.
